The NSA and the Central British Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ , for its acronym in English ) agents deployed in online games 'World of Warcraft ' and ' Second Life ' in order to recruit skilled players as ' spies ' . The ' spies ' of such agencies monitored and collected data through these known online games in which millions of people around the world participate , said new documents leaked by Edward Snowden and reported by the British newspaper 'The Guardian'. One of the reasons why is because they infiltrated some suspected terrorists might impersonate players. Records show , the secret services feared terrorist or criminal networks could use the ' online' games to communicate secretly transfer money or plan attacks . They also tried to recruit potential informants among the players , the newspaper added .
